Invited Talk Guidelines
Invited speakers should plan to accommodate a 5-minute question-and-answer period within the time allotted in the program. For example, a talk scheduled for 10:00-10:25 a.m. is a 20-minute presentation followed by a 5-minute Q&A.
Digital Presentation Requirements
The native aspect ratio of the auditorium display is 16:9.
The default presentation software for the workshop is Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2016 for Windows. Apple’s Keynote software is not supported.
Presentations created on Apple computers must be compatible with PowerPoint 2016 for Windows. If you’re using an Apple computer to create your presentation, we suggest that you upload a PDF of your presentation unless it includes videos or transitions.
For best performance, videos, if included, should be in MP4 format and embedded in the PowerPoint presentation. AVI and MPEG-4 formats are expected to work but are not recommended.
Loading Your Invited Talk
Upload your invited-talk presentation by midnight October 16 (EDT).
Name the file with your talk start time, version number, and your last name, in the following convention: hhmm_V_Lastname
.
For example, the file for the last talk in session 4 should be named 1420_1_Johnson
. If the presenter wishes to upload an updated version, the updated file should be named 1420_2_Johnson
.
Showing Your Invited Talk
As you approach the lectern, an NYU Langone media technician will pull up your presentation in Presenter Mode. At the lectern, you will control the presentation using keyboard arrows:
- right arrow to advance slides or start “on-click” movies
- left arrow to revert to the previous slide
The mouse will only function as a “laser pointer” for the audience. The lectern monitor will show Notes View, with the laser-pointer cursor selected, such that mousing over the current slide will show up as a laser pointer for the audience.
Timing Your Invited Talk
There will be a timer on the podium. When you begin speaking, a countdown will start, displayed in green.
At 5 minutes remaining, the timer will turn yellow. This is your Q&A time.
At the end of the allotted time, a red light will start flashing and the clock will begin counting overtime.
Power Pitch and Poster Guidelines
All poster presentations will be power-pitched. Each pitch is one minute.
Power Pitches
Create a one-minute oral presentation that communicates the essence of your work, highlighting key innovations or results. Think big picture and leave the details for the poster. We recommend that you practice your power pitch to ensure that you can deliver it within the allotted 60 seconds.
The power pitch presentations will be delivered in “rapid fire” format, back-to-back, with no questions.

Posters should be no larger than 36 by 36 inches. Larger prints cannot be accommodated.
Hand your printed poster to the workshop staff at the registration desk by 10:00 a.m. on October 18. Workshop staff will hang your poster and set up the poster boards ahead of the poster session.
Email a PDF file of the poster to i2iworkshop@nyulangone.org by October 23, the Monday following the workshop. The PDFs will be made available on the workshop web page after the meeting concludes.
