Postdoc in Machine Learning for Image Reconstruction

About Our Group

The mission of the Center for Advanced Imaging Innovation and Research (CAI2R) at NYU School of Medicine is to develop solutions to the existing limitations in today’s medical imaging practice and to deploy them for routine patient care. The center is embedded into the Department of Radiology and brings together over 80 full-time researchers, including basic MR scientists, clinical researchers, and research technicians. It is located in the center of Manhattan, adjacent to the UN headquarters.

Available Position

One of the core research topics of our group is the development of acquisition and reconstruction methods for accelerated MRI, and to translate them to clinical practice. Our group has worked on the use of machine learning for image reconstruction of accelerated MRI since 2015.

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our interdisciplinary and international group. Responsibilities will include:

  • Continuing development of machine learning methods for accelerated MRI based on our proposed variational network approach [1], together with our basic science cooperation partners at the Computer Vision, Learning and Optimization group at Graz University of Technology.
  • Performing trainings and validation experiments on our recently purchased machine learning high performance computer cluster consisting of 80 NVIDIA Volta 100 GPUs.
  • Translational developments to integrate these developments in the clinical workflow at NYU Radiology.
  • Working with our radiology research partners on clinical validation studies.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in computer science, mathematics, physics or electrical engineering.
  • Prior research experience with either MRI, preferably with focus on iterative reconstruction methods, or inverse problems, optimization and machine learning.
  • Programming skills, with experience in both Python and Matlab development. Familiarity with machine learning packages like Tensorflow or Pytorch is a plus.
  • Experience with Siemens MR scanners is a plus.
