Postdoc in Deep Learning for Medical Image Analysis

The Job

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to join our efforts in developing deep learning methods for early diagnosis of breast cancer with different medical imaging modalities, including mammography, digital breast tomosynthesis, breast ultrasound, and breast MRI. The candidates are expected to have strong machine learning and computer vision skills to work on methodological advances improving accuracy, robustness, and explainability of deep neural networks for this application.

The candidate will be based primarily at NYU School of Medicine (Krzysztof J. Geras, PhD, Linda Moy, MD and S. Gene Kim, PhD) and will work in close collaboration with NYU Center for Data Science (Kyunghyun Cho, PhD).


Expected Qualifications

  • PhD (or near completion thereof) in machine learning or related discipline
  • Experience with deep neural networks for computer vision
  • Excellent programming skills
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team with members at various levels
  • Prior experience in medical imaging is a plus but is not essential

About Us

Our Center, located in midtown Manhattan, is operated by the research arm of the radiology department of NYU Langone Health. The research division comprises approximately 130 full-­time personnel dedicated to imaging research, development, and clinical translation.

We focus on development of novel methods for rapid continuous comprehensive imaging, including but not limited to deep-learning image reconstruction and interpretation techniques, novel rapid MR acquisition and reconstruction strategies, innovative RF detectors and transmitters, new quantitative biomarkers for MRI and PET, and emerging MRI-based models of tissue microstructure.

We are a highly collaborative group and work in interdisciplinary, matrixed teams that include engineers, scientists, clinicians, technologists, and industry experts. We encourage collaboration across research groups to promote creativity and nurture an environment conducive to breakthrough innovations at the forefront of biomedical research.


Environment

Center for Advanced Imaging Innovation and Research (CAI2R) is operated by the department of radiology at NYU Langone Health. This arrangement brings together a vast amount of human and technological resources in basic magnetic-resonance science (physics, engineering, mathematics) and clinical applications (radiology, medicine, neurology, etc.).


Timeline, Salary, and Benefits

The position is supported by an NIH grant. The initial appointment will be for a year, with the option to renew. We offer a competitive salary, adjusted to the costs of living in New York, and subsidized housing provided by the NYU School of Medicine.
